In northern San Diego County, California

The red line shows a hiking route to the summit of Bear Ridge. Park on the north side of Woods Valley Road at point 035 which is close to the 2.5 mile marker. Cross the road and pass through a small gap in the fence and proceed on a good trail which was probably an old road. The trail goes relentlessly uphill to point 036, a good viewpoint. From there head east following roads and trails to a point just south of the peak. A short scramble through brush and rock leads to the summit. The route is about 4.5 miles round-trip. Due to a 200 ft. drop up on the ridge the overall elevation gain is about 1100 ft. A portion of the Rodriguez Mountain map is shown above with the UTM grid using NAD27 in zone 11. The contour interval is 20 ft. 10/13 RLC
