Mount Peavine (LO site), Josephine County, Oregon

Elevation = 3875 ft.

Located on BLM land

All that is left of the fire lookout on Mount Peavine is this concrete footing. Photo by Richard Carey on July 6, 2010. The following is a description from the National Historic Lookout Register site:

The state lookout at Peavine Mountain in southern Oregon came to life as a rag camp in 1920, serving until an L-4 on a 40’ pole tower was constructed in 1933. In 1961 the present 14’x14’ flattop cab on a 41’ treated timber tower was built. This tower was condemned and burned in November 2006. This lookout was destroyed in 2007.

The primary bechmark is missing. This is reference mark #2 for Peavine found near the concrete footings. Placed in 1943.
