Mount Hood, 11,249 ft. (3429 m), On Clackamas and Hood County lines, Oregon

Highest peak in Oregon, Located in the Mt. Hood National Forest

A view of the south side of Mount Hood. The peak is usually climbed from this side. A fire lookout was built on the summit and put into service on July 21, 1915. It served for many years, but was eventually considered too high for reliable spotting of fires since the summit was often in clouds. In 1935 the structure was abandoned and in the winter of 1941 it slipped off the top and slid down into a crevasse. Photo taken July 11, 2010.
