Calamity Butte Lookout, Harney County, Oregon

Located in the Malheur National Forest
The main lookout tower at Calamity Butte is this impressive timber structure which was staffed at the time of our visit. This was built to replace the older ground-mounted building which is a short distance north. (see photo below) Photo taken September 5, 2019.
This is the original lookout building. There has been a lookout on this mountain for the past 86 years, the first one placed in 1933. This lookout National Historic Lookout Register #73.
