The lookout is usually staffed during the fire season, but was closed when we visited. This lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register #381. It was built by the CCC in 1935. Photos taken May 31, 2005. Update: Since 2019 this lookout has not been staffed for the past two years and needs some renovation. Recent News: This lookout was totally burned in the Windy Fire on September 14, 2021. The structure was wrapped in foil to try to save it, but sadly it was still destroyed in the huge fire which burned 97,528 acres. | |||||||||||
The sign says 8142 ft. for the elevation but the benchmark which is on a slab not much lower than the building has a corrected elevation of 8152 ft. | |||||||||||
