Looking north at the lookout tower which was built by the CCC in 1934. It is in a spectacular location on a peak north of the Kaiser Wilderness. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is recommended for the drive up to the narrow road to the lookout. This lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register #306. | |||||||||
Jim Payne has been the lookout at Mount Tom for the past 19 years. Sadly, Jim passed away on September 1, 2018. He served as the lookout at Mt. Tom from 1986 to 2012. | |||||||||

Tom benchmark is about 200 ft. southwest of the tower on top of a rock pinnacle. It is the highest natural point on the summit. Placed in 1961. Datasheet: HR2773
