This peak is probably the oldest site in the Sequoia National Forest. It was used as a primitive lookout site in the 1890's prior to the land being designated a national forest. The site was officially used as a lookout in 1914 and shows up on a 1916 Sequoia National Forest map. A 20 ft. steel tower was built by the CCC in 1934. There was extensive remodeling in 1970 when the tower and cab were enclosed with metal siding. It is normally staffed by Sequoia National Forest personnel in the fire season. This lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register #380. Photos taken September 2, 2005.
