| This newspaper article from June 28, 1940 shows a tower on Grapevine Peak. It appears that this was used for radio equipment and airplane spotting and was not necessarily a fire lookout. The second article below from June 26, 1943 shows that it was in use for spotting enemy aircraft during World War II. This is similar to the lookout on Caliente Peak.
